POLICE DEPARTMENT NOTICE - UPDATE WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 25TH

As of August 25th, 2010, no Transient Vendor Permits are in effect for any home improvement vendors.

Recently the Police Department has received calls regarding solicitors traveling door-to-door, selling asphalt. Residents have been told by the solicitors that they are employed by an asphalt company that is paving driveways in the resident's neighborhood and the asphalt company happens to have extra asphalt. Reports indicate that the solicitor has told residents that the asphalt company will offer a reduced price to pave residents' driveways.

The Russell Police Department wishes to remind residents that any vendor who travels door-to-door, selling any goods, must obtain a Transient Vendor Permit, which is approved by the Russell Township Fiscal Officer. The Transient Vendor Permit application can be obtained from the Russell Police Department.

After the Transient Vendor Permit is issued, the vendor is given a badge to wear, indicating the 90-day period the permit is valid. At the expiration of the 90-days of issuance, all Transient Vendors are required to complete a new registration prior to conducting any further sales activities.

If a door-to-door solicitor arrives at your home, check to make sure they are wearing a badge indicating a Transient Vendor Permit has been obtained. If the solicitor does not have a Transient Vendor Permit issued by the Township, please call 440-338-1212 and an Officer will be dispatched to your home and neighborhood. It is helpful if a vehicle license plate, vehicle make and vehicle color is obtained.

A reminder, always use common sense. If a deal appears too good to be true, it probably is.

Call the Police Department if you have any questions. The Police Department office phone number: 440-338-6212. The non-emergency dispatch phone number is: 440-338-1212. Emergency: 9-1-1.

About Russell Township...

Russell Township is a community 20 miles east of the city of Cleveland. The residents of Russell enjoy excellent schools, libraries and services where young couples are starting families and where more mature couples are enjoying the peace and serenity of rolling wooded hills. There is a history that reaches back to the first family to settle here, the Gideon Russell family in 1818. They built their home on Chillicothe Road just south of the town center.  Click to Continue...
